Priests model without Vatican's blessing

A CALENDAR of hunky young priests posing in Rome has gone on sale in the heart of the Catholic capital.

Looking more like models than men of the cloth they appear in tasteful black and white photographs outside Italian churches or monuments for the new Calendario Romano.

Vatican officials say the calendar is not an officially licenced product, but all 12 priests willingly took part in the photo shoot.

Religious leaders in the Italian state are keeping their thoughts on the project to themselves, but snapper Piero Pazzi, 40, says the calendar is flying off the shelves.

He said: "From the feedback I am getting it's mainly older women who are buying it.

"I usually take pictures of gondoliers in Venice but I didn't realise this would be such a popular seller and arouse such interest.

"The photos are shot in black and white in a 50's style and it stirs a few memories."

The Catholic Church in England said: "There are a lot of attractive priests and there are a lot of good-looking Italians, so I wouldn't look into it too much."
