Muslims Hold World Congress in Kwara

Ilorin, capital of Kwara State, will from tomorrow to Thursday, play host to reknowned Islamic scholars for the first international conference of the World Muslim Congress (WMC), in Nigeria.

According to Chairman, Publicity Committee, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Congress was founded by eminent muslim leaders from various parts of the world in Mecca, in 1926.

The aim and objective of the body, he said, is to render all embracing services to the course of Islam and muslims, and to mitigate the problems facing Islam and muslims in particular, and humanity in general,without interfering in the domestic or internal politics of any country.

Dubbed "Nigeria 2004", it has as theme, "the muslim world, from the past bloom to the painful gloom," and would attract eminent scholars from various parts of the world.

Highlights of the conference include an inter-religious dialogue on "religion and human existence," with a cleric from the Vatican City, Archbishop Michael Fitge-rald, President of Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue leading other clerics from the two faiths.

Shedding light on the dialogue, member, planning committee, Dr AbdulRazaq Amuda, said the session was introduced to showcase the need for muslims and non muslims to co-habit together as a family.
