Religion-based census to dominate RSS meet on Friday; Advani to speak

The controversial religion-based census showing a sharp rise in Muslim population would be the main agenda of the two-day RSS national executive beginning here tomorrow which will be addressed by BJP President L K Advani.

RSS spokesman Ram Madhav told reporters here that the main agenda included discussion on the 2001 census report, which was a "cause of concern", and a resolution would be put up at the meeting.

Besides, infiltration by Bangladeshis and national security would be taken up by the top brass of RSS, he said.

Advani and RSS chief K S Sudarshan would address the meeting which will be attended also by Advani's immediate predecsssor as BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu.

Replying to a question, Madhav said RSS would extend support to VHP in its fresh efforts for construction of Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

"RSS will give full cooperation to VHP if it makes any fresh effort in this direction," he said.

He, however, parried all questions whether the Ram Temple issue would be discussed at the meeting.

After the two-day meet, a public meeting will be held on November seven and on the following day RSS leaders will have talks with 'sants' of the Akhara Parishad.

However, members of the Akhara Parishad have threatened to boycott the meeting if VHP leader Ashok Singhal was present at the talks.

The Akhara Parishad has been opposed to Singhal for quite some time and are demanding that the VHP leadership be handed over to some other person.
