Radhasoami faith's seventh guru dead

DR M B LALSAHAB, THE SEVENTH GURU OF RADHASOAMI FAITH, DIED HERE THIS MORNING. HE WAS 88.

CREMATION WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW, RADHASOAMI SATSANG SABHA SAID.

A FORMER VICE-CHANCELLOR OF LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY AND RENOWNED ZOOLOGIST, LALSAHAB SUCCEEDED MEHTAJI MAHARAJ TO BECOME THE SEVENTH GURU OF THE RADHASOAMI SECT, HEADQUARTED AT DAYALBAGH, IN FEBRUARY 1975.

THE SECT WAS FOUNDED IN 1861 BY SHAHBJI MAHARAJ.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUIONS IN DAYALBAGH INCLUDING THE DEI DEEMED UNIVRSITY, ENGINEERING COLLEGE, TECHNICAL COLLEGE AND SARAN HOSPITALREMAINED CLOSED TODAY AS A MARK OF RESPECT TO THE MEMORY OF THE GURU.

THE SAMADHI OF THE FOUNDER GURU MODELLED ON THE TAJ MAHAL HAS BEEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION SINCE 1904 AND IS A MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTION BESIDES BEING A PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE FOR THE FOLLOWERS OF THE FAITH.
