A Maori Bishop has been named as the new head of the Anglican Church in New Zealand.
The Right Reverend Te Whakahuihui Vercoe has been elected as Primate, succeeding Bishop John Paterson of Auckland.
Bishop Vercoe has been the head of the Maori Anglican Church since 1981, and has played a role in the international Church.
The Anglican Church says the election is an historic move, and shows the Anglican commitment to bicultural partnership.
