Saint Teresa: All hopes rest on last miracle

Just one more miracle for Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata to be hailed as Saint Teresa of Kolkata.

"Only one more miracle is necessary. The postulator's office in Rome has received some testimonies of favours. They will select the best of these," said Missionaries of Charity (MoC) superior general Sister Nirmala on the occasion of the 94th birth anniversary of Mother Teresa on Thursday.

While the Vatican had beatified Mother Teresa last year on the basis of claims made by Monica Besra, a tribal woman from north Bengal who was cured of abdominal tumour due to Mother Teresa's blessings, a fresh miracle after the beatification is necessary for sainthood.

Sister Nirmala said the MoC had received claims of fresh miracles but they were yet to be forwarded to the Vatican for consideration. "We will do so soon," she said.

On Thursday, Mother House - the MoC global headquarters, was thronged by devotees who wished to pay their respects to Mother Teresa.

A screening of Payal Mohanka's documentary, From Saint to Sainthood - portraying the homes run by MoC and nuns and recalling their cherished moments with Mother Teresa - was shown on the occasion.
