Regretting reports about attempts of forced conversion to Christianity, Madhya Pradesh Catholic Church on Friday sought thorough investigation into the matter and punishment to those found guilty.
In a statement, the Church spokesman Anand Muttungal said that the persons involved in the alleged incident are not members of the Catholic church and added that the report about the, "attempt of forced conversion to Christianity is a sad news to the Christian community at large".
He said the police and the administration should investigate the matter thoroughly and if the accused persons are found guilty, "let them be punished according to the law of the country".
However, if the issue is baseless and designed to destroy the image of the Christian community and disturb communal harmony, those behind the incident must be punished, he said.
Three persons had been taken into custody for allegedly trying to convert people forcibly in Piplani area here but were later released on bail.
