CALCUTTA (AFP) - Nuns at Mother Teresa's order have obtained a copyright to her name and their logo from Indian authorities, one of the sisters told AFP.
They had sought a copyright to prevent commercial groups from using Mother Teresa's name and the logo of the order, Sister Christie of the Missionaries of Charity said Tuesday.
"Mother House has received the certification of copyright registration. The logo, designed by Mother Teresa, is a rosary-encircled globe with a cross at the centre," she said.
"We are happy to know that Mother Teresa's name and the logo cannot be used or reproduced without the consent of Missionaries of Charity."
Mother Teresa had during her lifetime said that she did not want her name or that of her organisation to be used by anybody without her permission or of her successor, according to the nuns.
Mother Teresa died aged 87 in 1997 after a lifetime of service to the poor, which earned her a global recognition including the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Vatican plans to beatify her on October 19 in the last step before the Albanian-born nun can be declared a saint.
