Muslim Sect Declares War On Gov

The Quadriyya Muslim sect in Kano has declared an all-out war against the Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, accusing him of marginalisation and hiding under the Sharia Islamic code to cause division and hatred among the different sects in the state.

Members of the sect, which is one of the three largest in the state, have been hurling insults at the governor during Juma'at prayers these days, vowing to frustrate his efforts.

On Monday, the group turned out in their thousands at the state House of Assembly, protesting alleged marginalisation by the Kano governor.

The group, led by Sheikh Abduljafar Nasiru Kabara, caused pandemonium at the House of Assembly premises, and it took the efforts of security personnel to check a potentially dangerous situation.

They accused the governor of being indifferent to the plight of the people and said that the Sharia Implementation Commission had practically assumed the role of a Juma'at Mosque Imam; as well as imposing on itself (the Sharia Implementation Commission), the right of special training.

It would be recalled that the Kano Emirate Council recently reacted to a decision by the governor to give the choice of producing the Imam for the Juma'at Mosque, which is the central and biggest mosque in the city, to the Sharia Implementation Commission, instead of the Emirate Council.

Investigation revealed that the Quadriyya sect's action disturbed the governor who is said to be pondering the most appropriate action to take.
