Christian Elders Want Compensation for Crisis Victims

Northern Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) has told the Plateau and Kano State governments to pay compensation to all victims of the recent crises which rocked the areas.

In a communique at the end of its quarterly meeting in Kaduna, the group said that the two state governments should be held responsible for the wanton destruction of lives and property, for failing to provide adequate protection for citizens.

The communique signed by NOSCEF Chairman, Prof. Adamu Baikie, asked the Federal Government to take measures to enforce the fundamental human rights of citizens wherever they live in the country, as enshrined in the constitution.

According to the communique, "while the forum do not support the reprisal killing of Moslems in Yelwa shendam, there is no justification for Moslems in Kano and Jega in Kebbi State to attack innocent Christians living amongst them, moreso when they had no hands in the Yelwa killings. The forum noted with regret that some state especially in the north have continued to deny Christians the right to own land even for the building of Churches, while some are threatening to demolish those already built. While it believes that this is an infringement on the fundamental rights of Christians to propagate their faith without hindrance.

It promised to continue its divine obligation to continue to pray for all those in authority so that we all shall live in peace and harmoney with one another.
