A section of Christians of Muhabura Diocese in Kisoro, who are against the consecration of Rev. Canon David Sebuhinja as bishop, have said they will camp at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Seseme.
Eddie Kwizera, the former MP for Bufumbira East, yesterday said that the Christians had resolved to carry out this exercise as a last resort in their protest.
"We are going to set up camp at the cathedral until Jan.19," Kwizera said.
He is among the Kisoro Christians at the forefront of protests against the consecration of Sebuhinja.
Over the weekend, the Christians gave five reasons for their stand.
"It is the bishops who are imposing the man on us," Kwizera said. "They are undermining our integrity. It is us who know the man better and we don't want him to be our bishop."
Further he maintained that the people of Kisoro are ready to fight for what they feel is right.
He added that the Christians want the House of Bishops to let them select another two people as candidates for the post of bishop.
"They are disorganising us, they should give us a chance to hand in the names of the candidates we feel are capable," Kwizera said.
Meanwhile, a letter from reverends in favour of the consecration of Sebuhinja accused district chairman Philemon Mateke of being the major cause of the division in the church.
The letter, dated Nov. 18, 2002, is signed by 18 reverends and copied to President Yoweri Museveni, ministers, government officials and members of Parliament.
They accused Mateke of waging war against the church since he learnt of Bishop Ernest Shalita's retirement and causing division in the district and the church.
