The Episcopal Conference of Angola and Sao Tome (CEAST), which is linked to the Catholic Church, has apologized to president Jose Eduardo dos Santos, for the insulting comments aired on the Catholic Church radio station "Radio Ecclesia". In a communique labelled "Radio Ecclesia Case", the Cathloic Church apologizes to the Angolan head of State and to all other entities that have been harmed in the latest rift between the Government and the mentioned radio station. CEAST deplores the disrespectful way in which some listeners have been referred to some Government officials, including the head of the State, on several phone-in programmes.
"Although these attitudes have not come from any worker or member of the managing board of the radio station, we apologize to everyone that has been harmed, particularly the President of the Republic", reads the communique that was signed by the ArchBishop of Lubango and chairman of CEAST, Don Zacarias Kamuenho.
In the same communique, CEAST also asks the journalists of that radio station to always adopt a language that is dignifying to the speaker, the listener or the broadcaster.
Nevertheless, they reaffirm that Radio Ecclesia should continue informing the public with truth and that comments on the station must comply with the editorial policy approved by CEAST, which is in line with the so-called "Augustinian Principle", that says "In fundamental matters there should be search for unity, in terms of opinion, liberty, but in everything, clarity."
