Catholic Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a'Nzeki has told MPs not to even think of legalising abortion.
Ndingi, while re-stating the Catholic Church's aversion to the vice, said there was a danger of other repugnant vices like Euthanasia (mercy killing) being pushed through Parliament.
"So what after abortion? The moment Parliament legalises it, proponents of Euthanasia will also want to have the vice legalised," Ndingi said.
According to the Catholic Church, Ndingi said, the moment a child is conceived, it is regarded as a life. It will therefore be criminal to terminate it.
On Wednesday last week, Githunguri MP Njehu Gatabaki asked the Government to bring an amendment to the Penal Code to decriminalise abortion. This was after Imenti's Kiraitu Murungi alleged that laws criminalising abortion were "dead". Murungi had claimed that Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) ward 6 was usually packed with victims of unsuccessful abortions.
Ndingi was speaking to the East African Standard on Saturday evening at the Buru Buru SOS Village after he blessed 29 rings of honour to be given to employees who had served SOS villages for 10 years. The rings were later presented to 29 recipients from Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret by the visiting SOS-Kinderdoft International President, Helmut Kutin.
