The first ever African Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, has appealed to Ugandans and people world-wide not to use religion to divide the people.
He said, "Religion should never be used as a weapon to divide people but be used to foster unity, harmony and tranquillity amongst people regardless of their ethnicity, political or religious affiliation."
Kasujja made the remarks on Friday at Bulange, Mengo, when he paid a courtesy call on the Katikkiro, Joseph Ssemwogerere.
Kasujja is the Papal's Nuncio in Algeria and Tunisia, a post he has held since August 1998. He joined the Holy See's Diplomatic Service in 1979.
He was accompanied by the Fr. Superior of Rubaga Catholic Parish, Fr. W. Katende.
Others present were Mengo Ministers Tucker Lwanga and George Kamala Kanamwangi, Joseph Kisuule and J.B. Bugembe, Permanent and Under Secretaries respectively.
Kasujja hailed the good-working relationship between the Christian and the Muslim governments in Tunisia and Algeria.
He said, "Although they are Muslim countries, we live comfortably with them."
